SSS Clutch Company, Inc., is the Western Hemisphere affiliate of SSS Gears Ltd (UK) charged with technical sales and service for everything related to SSS one-way disconnect mechanical clutches.
SSS Clutch designed and manufactured the combined SSS starting and turning gear clutches incorporated in the original W501 packages in the late 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. SSS Clutch has now performed over 40 overhauls of SSS clutch + gearbox assemblies. The SSS clutch is bolted and doweled to the secondary worm gear on the gearbox, so it is most practical to overhaul both components together. SSS Clutch stocks a complete inventory of SSS clutch components, as well as bearings, gaskets, and seals for the turning gear gearbox, which provides for a quick turnaround. Assembly checks and tests are made to ensure functionality and reliability for future service.
Aside from a starting and turning gear role on most makes of CT and ST, SSS clutches are found in many other applications, among them disconnect between CT and GEN to facilitate synchronous condensing or spinning reserve, and disconnect between ST and GEN in combined cycle single shaft arrangements.
